Sun-Damaged Skin - Dr. Desmer Destang

Photo-damaged skin is prevalent in the Caribbean, and can occur on any skin colour.

All skin colours can show signs of sun damage.

Sun-damage on lighter skin:

Sun damage is most often noticeable in lighter coloured skin as pigmented age spots, rough actinic keratosis, and solar elastosis (thickened skin texture). Severe sun-damage prematurely ages the skin, causes wrinkles, and predisposes lighter skinned persons to a higher risk of developing skin cancers.

Sun-damage on darker skin:

On darker skin, sun-damage shows up often as maturational hyperpigmentation, and skin dyschromias. This means that while darker skin may wrinkle less, it is more prone to developing areas of darkening and uneven skin tones, especially around the eyes, mouth, and cheeks. Skin tags and dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) darkened bumps also can become more prevalent with age.

Our treatments for sun-damaged skin:

Sun-damage affects the skin on several cellular levels. Our Dermalogics approach therefore is one that takes a holistic view of the skin to promote cellular harmony. Our treatments include:
